Tourist Information

Nuuk is situated at the entrance to Godthåbsfjord and forms the natural starting point for a series of beautiful sailing and hiking tours. The fjord is among other things known for its large population of whales, which makes it possible to go whale-watching in the months of June till November / December. In addition a series of boat trips are offered to among other things, the ice fjord, the abandoned settlement of Qoornoq, the settlements of Kapsilit and Kangeq / The Island of Hope, where Hans Egede settled when he arrived in Greenland in 1721.

In colonial port of Nuuk, the city's museum district, it is possible to see women sew "kittat" (fur sewing) to the national costume, to visit the kayak house where kayaks are being built, or the National Museum with changing exhibitions and the world famous mummy from Qilakitsoq near Uummannaq.
   
Visit also the "Board" which is the marketplace where the city's local fishermen and hunters sell seals, whales and seasonal fish and bird ... redfish, lumpfish, cod, fresh trout, heather, smoked trout, reindeer and Greenland's  response to a bitter version of rhubarb, angelica . Filling the freezer with seasonal game is a tradition which insures a steady supply of local products all year.
