Hotel Hans Egede is situated in the heart of Greenland's capital Nuuk with a central location in Nuuk City center. The city was founded by the Norwegian missionary Hans Egede, who arrived in Greenland in the 1721.

Named after the founder of Nuuk
Hotel Hans Egede is named after the founder of Nuuk, the Norwegian missionary Hans Egede. In 1721 he arrived in Greenland in company with his wife Gertrud Rask, where the couple settled on the Island of Hope outside of Nuuk.
After some tough years on the Island of Hope Hans Egede and Gertrud Rask decided to move to Nuuk. At a solemn church service on the 29 th of August 1728 Hans Egede named the area Good Hope, and ever since he has been referred to as the founder of Nuuk. |
